Dance of the Vampires
Various Quotes

Dance of the Vampires opened December 9, 2002

Talkin' Broadway -
"David Gallo has outdone even his previous exceptional work here. The least stunning of his concoctions - a spooky forest, a smoky inn, an attic bedchamber, a great gothic bedroom - are remarkably atmospheric, providing the sense of time and place nothing else in the show approximates. But his most impressive creations comprise a graveyard (complete with coffins) that floats in from the fly space, and a mammoth drawbridge emerging from complete demonic blackness. Spectacle, yes, but eminently theatrical."

Theatermania -
"The pre-opening buzz for Dance of the Vampires suggested that critics would, you'll excuse the expression, be dancing on this production's grave. Well, you can drive a stake through the heart of the buzz, because the show may well turn out to be a bat-out-of-hell hit. DOTV rises from its would-be grave thanks to a book loaded with comic one-liners that have the zany ring of the work of co-author David Ives. It fully comes to life in its deliriously gothic set designs by David Gallo, tongue-in-cheek direction by John Rando, and a dead-on cast led by Michael Crawford, all of whom know how to bite into a gag."

Playbill On-Line -
"The creative team behind Dance of the Vampires includes David Gallo (scenic design) — whose massive drawbridge has received its own applause, Ann Hould Ward (costume design), Richard Ryan (sound), Ken Billington (lighting design), David Lawrence (hair and wigs) and Angelina Avallone (make-up). Patrick Vacariello serves as musical director, Steve Margoshes orchestrates and Michael Reed handles musical supervision."
