DAVID GALLO | SCENIC DESIGNER

David Gallo has been designing for theater, family entertainment, concerts, and special events for over 20 years.

David’s set design for The Drowsy Chaperone won the 2006 Tony award, Drama Desk and Outer Critics awards. Recent Broadway designs include Xanadu, Radio Golf (Tony nom.), Company, Gem of the Ocean (Tony nom.), Thoroughly Modern Millie, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, The Smell of the Kill and King Hedley II. Internationally, he designed Joop van den Ende's The Wiz and Beauty and the Beast in Holland. David has also designed The Drowsy Chaperone and Thoroughly Modern Millie in London’s West End. Recent regional and Off-Broadway productions include NERDS: A Musical Software Satire, 13, Shout!, BARE: A Pop Opera, Mr. Goldwyn, Jitney (also London) and Blue Man Group (Las Vegas, Chicago, NY).

Mr. Gallo designed the 135th Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus, as well as the national tours of Go Diego Go, Dora the Explorer and Blues Clues. He has also designed events for Ford, the NBA, Coors, Lever Brothers, Merrill Lynch and Pfizer.

Mr. Gallo is the recipient of the 2000 Obie for Sustained Excellence in Set Design as well as NAACP and Eddy Awards. Other awards include the Drama Desk, Lucille Lortel, American Theater Wing, Hewes Design, Ovation, and L.A. Critics Circle awards. His work has been displayed at the Design Triennial at the Cooper Hewitt Museum, the Prague Quadrennial, The McNay Museum and is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C.
